Union Public Service Commission (UPSC, New Delhi) has officially published the notification for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027. Graduate engineering candidates across Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering disciplines can submit their online applications through the UPSC One Time Registration (OTR) portal at upsconline.nic.in. The online application window is open from 16 September 2026 to 06 October 2026 (up to 6:00 PM). The Preliminary CBT/Offline examination is scheduled for 31 January 2027.

Degree in Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) in relevant discipline from a recognized University / Institute OR passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) OR M.Sc Degree with relevant specializations.
Category II: Mechanical Engineering Central Power Engineering Service, Indian Naval Armament Service, Geological Survey of India Engineering Service.
Category III: Electrical Engineering Central Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Service, Indian Naval Material Management Service, Central Power Engineering.
Category IV: Electronics & Telecom Indian Radio Regulatory Service, Indian Telecommunication Service, Central Power Engineering Service.
Examination Scheme & Marks Distribution

Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (500 Marks): Objective type papers consisting of Paper-I (General Studies & Engineering Aptitude - 200 Marks, 2 Hours) and Paper-II (Discipline Specific Engineering - 300 Marks, 3 Hours). Negative marking of 1/3rd (0.33) marks.

Stage-II & III: Main (Conventional Written) Examination (600 Marks) followed by Personality Test / Interview (200 Marks). Total aggregate out of 1,300 Marks determines final merit rank.

How to Fill Online Application Form
  1. Visit the official UPSC application portal: upsconline.nic.in.
  2. Complete your One Time Registration (OTR) if applying for the first time on the UPSC portal.
  3. Log in using Registered Email / Mobile / OTR ID with OTP or Password.
  4. Under 'Latest Notifications', find 'Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination 2027'.
  5. Fill Part-I registration: select Engineering discipline (Civil, Mech, Elec, E&T), center preferences, and qualification details.
  6. Proceed to Part-II: Pay application fee of ₹200/- (Females and SC/ST/PwBD are exempt).
  7. Upload scanned passport photograph (latest, not older than 10 days with name/date) and signature.
  8. Review the form, accept the declaration, and submit before 06 October 2026 (6:00 PM).
