The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the detailed information bulletin and opened the online application portal for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET December 2026). The test determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for 'Award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor', 'Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.', and 'Admission to Ph.D. only' in 83 subjects across Indian universities and colleges. Eligible candidates can submit applications online from 08 October 2026 to 07 November 2026.

Age Limit (as on 01/12/2026)
  • For JRF: Not more than 30 Years as on 01 December 2026.
  • Age Relaxation for JRF: Up to 5 years relaxation for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, and female applicants.
  • For Assistant Professor: No Upper Age Limit.
  • For Admission to Ph.D.: No Upper Age Limit.
Educational Qualification
  • General / Unreserved: Minimum 55% marks in Master's Degree or equivalent from UGC recognized Universities.
  • Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD): Minimum 50% marks in Master's Degree.
  • Appearing Candidates: Candidates pursuing Master's Degree final year can also apply provisionally.
  • 4-Year Bachelor Degree Holders: Candidates with 4-year / 8-semester Bachelor's degree (minimum 75% marks) are eligible for JRF and Ph.D.

How to Fill NTA UGC NET Online Application Form 2026
  1. Visit the official NTA UGC NET website: ugcnet.nta.ac.in.
  2. Click on "UGC NET December 2026 Registration / Login" link.
  3. Complete New Registration using Aadhaar / Digilocker / ABC ID / Passport / PAN authentication.
  4. Fill application form details, choose subject from the 83 available domain codes, and select exam cities.
  5. Upload recent scanned passport photograph (10 KB to 200 KB) and signature (4 KB to 30 KB).
  6. Pay examination fee online via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card or UPI.
  7. Download and print the Confirmation Page for future reference.
